MT. SHASTA’S FORGERY SHOW TRAVELS TO DAVIS
The Forgery Show, an annual Mt. Shasta art exhibit showcasing expertly-executed reproductions in oil of world-renown masterworks, will open its first non-Siskiyou County show at Pence Gallery in Davis on Friday, October 14. All paintings on display were completed by Mt. Shasta Atelier (“ArtRoster”) artists, students of local painter Aleksander Balos. The paintings represent works by Salvador Dali, Modigliani, Georges de La Tour, Jacques–Louis David, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Rembrandt, Gerhard Richter, Vermeer, Grant Wood and other major figures of art history.
The annual Forgery Show began in 2013 when ten separate reproductions in oil of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa were displayed at The Gallery in Mt. Shasta. Since then the number of participating artists has increased, as well as the variety of masterworks represented.
The exhibiting artists meet weekly with Balos at Snow Creek Studios in Mt. Shasta to hone their skills and creative expression by drawing and painting their own individual pieces. Balos instructs them in techniques from the Old Masters’ atelier system of the European classical and impressionistic painting schools, as well as more contemporary methods.
Siskiyou County artists participating in the Davis show include Kit Bertolucci, Dustin Bonivert, Margaret Britton, Leonard Brown, Karen Copsey, Janet Crittenden, Lezlie Graebel, Lynda Hardy, Judy Hester, Shery Larson, Ariel Morgan, Jenny Purtle, Adrienne van Summern, Suzanne van Summern, Linda Vivas, Lou Wandro and Michael Wecksler.
The Davis show runs through Sunday, November 27, 2016
